Frequently Asked Questions

I want to make sure that your family are in the best care possible. If you don’t see your answer here, please reach out via the form below and ask a question.

Do I need a referral or a diagnosis?
You don’t need a referral from your GP, nor does your child require a diagnosis. A GP or family health nurse are both a great place to start for guidance if you’re worried about the health and development of your child, but I can help you explore further. Sometimes it’s the smallest change, in an unexpected setting, that can have the biggest impact down the road.
Do you provide services under the NDIS funding?

Yes, if your child has a self-managed or plan-managed NDIS package, I can provide services using your NDIS funding. I also accept private-pay clients.

  • NDIS eligibility for children over 7 years of age here
Can I use Medicare or Private Health Cover rebates with your service?
I am an approved Medicare provider so if your child is eligible for occupational therapy services through Medicare or if your private health fund provides a rebate for occupational therapy services you can use those resources to help cover the cost of occupational therapy services through Southern Peninsula OT.
  • To find out if occupational therapy rebates are available through your private health fund, please contact them directly.
My child hasn’t been diagnosed, and I don't know what the problem is. Can you still help?

That’s okay, part of the process is to listen to your concerns, and work together to identify and understand any barriers that are impacting your child’s participation. We can then try different strategies to overcome those barriers.

What do I need before coming to see you?
If you’ve worked with a GP or child and family health nurse, it’s a good idea to share those findings.
If you’ve already met with an NDIS planner and have a plan in place, it would be great if you could also share the goals from your NDIS plan.
Think about what goals you and your child have and that you’d like to work on. We will determine these in the first session, but it’s good to start thinking about these early so we can discuss expectations.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation notice by SMS before 3pm of the day before the appointment will not incur a charge. Cancellations after this will be charged at 90% of the standard rate. I recognise that many NDIS clients can get sick quickly and you will not be charged for cancellations due to sudden illness. Repeated cancellations will incur 90% cancellation fee of planned session
Where are sessions held?
I will come to you. It’s important for us to work together in the natural environment where your child plays, learns and lives. There may be environmental factors, or ways of addressing needs creatively in your home. Sessions might also take place at your child’s kinder or child care, the park, the supermarket or anywhere else where we might support your child’s participation.
What can I expect from a therapy session?

We will always be working towards the goals that you have developed for your child. Each session will start by reviewing any changes that have happened since the previous session and a discussion about any particular skills or areas you would like to work on during the current session. As I use a caregiver-coaching model, the expectation is that a caregiver is present for the duration of the session. You will get an opportunity to practice strategies while I am there so that you are confident in continuing the strategies with your child. The last few minutes of the session will be spent providing you with notes capturing what we worked on during the session and any activities to work on going forward. We will also agree on the date and time of the next session.

How long is a typical session?
A standard therapy session is 60 minutes. This can be shortened or extended by mutual agreement. If there is anything in particular you would like to work on during a therapy session it’s important to let me know at the start of the session so that we have adequate time to work on it.
